Biden administration extends pause on student-loan payments until Jan. 31

The Biden administration on Friday announced what it described as “a final extension” of the pause on student-loan repayments, interest and collections until Jan. 31. The Department of Education said in a news release that the “additional time and a definitive end date will allow borrowers to plan for the resumption of payments and reduce the risk of delinquency and defaults after restart.” An earlier pause on student-loan payments had been set to expire on Sept. 30.
